United Methodist Student Day

Lead me in God’s truth

Lead me in your truth, and teach me, …”  --Psalm 25:5a, NRSV

“A United Methodist college education gave me the tools to be a faithful servant and to help lead the church,” says Adam Webb, a 2004 graduate of Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa.

Even as a teen-ager, Adam, now 22, began putting those tools to use. He as a delegate to the 2000 and 2004 General Conferences, chaired the Iowa Annual Conference Higher Education and Ministry Legislative Committee and served on the General Commission on Pan-Methodist Cooperation and Union, which he describes as on of his passions. As he pursued his music degree, Adam was involved in the campus Religious Life Committee, Chapel Praise Team and numerous other activities.

Gift of Hope scholar Adam Webb exemplifies the type of leader his ancestors envisioned in 1866 when they established a special fund for the advanced education of Sunday school children and to prepare future ministers and missionaries. Today, the United Methodist Student Day offering nurtures men and women to serve their churches and their communities:

Undergraduates attending United Methodist-related schools receive scholarships.
Undergraduates and graduates benefit from student loans.
Each year $50,000 is returned to annual conferences for merit scholarship awards to students of their choosing.

“The spiritual foundation my United Methodist college education provided,” Adam adds, “now supports me as I continue graduate studies in music and fulfill my calling to be a servant of the church.”

“Lead me in your truth, and teach me,” the Psalmist wrote. Invest in the church of today and tomorrow. Please give generously on United Methodist Student Day, the last Sunday in November. Your gift makes a world of difference!
